Nominate for Council
In South Australia, anyone considering standing for council must meet the eligibility requirements set out under state legislation.
To be eligible, you need to be at least 18 years of age and either enrolled to vote within the council area or entitled to be included on the council voters roll, such as a non‑resident property owner or occupier.
Serving as a councillor is a valuable way to make a positive impact in your local community. It is both a rewarding and demanding role, requiring dedication, sound judgement and a strong sense of responsibility.

Before you start your journey, let’s check the basics. To nominate for council, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older.
- An Australian Citizen.
- On the local government voter roll for our council area (either as a resident, an owner, or an occupier of a rateable property).
