Poisonous Wild Mushrooms

Poisonous Wild Mushrooms

As the weather gets colder and wetter, poisonous wild mushrooms start to appear.

Dangerous mushrooms can be found in the wild (like parks, forests and nature reserves), but also in your garden, lawn, mulch or compost.

Eating poisonous mushrooms can make a person very unwell or even cause death.

Play it safe. Only eat mushrooms that have been purchased from a reliable green-grocer or supermarket.

Keep an eye on children and pets outside, as mushrooms are in easy reach and can look interesting and attractive to eat.

If you or someone you know has eaten a wild mushroom, do not wait for symptoms.

  • Call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 and they will tell you if you need medical attention.
  • In an emergency always call Triple Zero (000).
  • Call a vet immediately if you pet has eaten wild mushrooms.
