Have Your Say: Proposed Long-Term Lease – Halidon CFS Station
Council is seeking community feedback on a proposed long-term lease over a portion of community land used by the Halidon Country Fire Service (CFS) Station.
At its meeting on 21 July 2026, Council provided in-principle support for a request from the Minister for Emergency Services to enter into a 21-year lease, with a further 21-year option to renew, over a portion of the land associated with the Halidon CFS Station.
No final decision has been made. Council is now inviting community feedback on the proposal before considering whether to proceed with the lease.
What is being proposed?
The Minister for Emergency Services has requested a long-term lease over a defined portion of the community land used by the Halidon CFS Station.
The proposed lease would be for:
- an initial term of 21 years
- with an option to renew for a further 21 years.
The Minister has also requested permission to construct a new toilet block and septic system at the site at the Minister's expense.
The proposed lease area is shown on the site plans available below.
Why is Council consulting?
The land is classified as community land.
Because the proposed lease is for a term greater than five years, Council is required to undertake public consultation before making a final decision on the proposed long-term lease.
Council's Community Engagement Policy also classifies the alienation of community land by lease or licence as a significant engagement activity.
This consultation gives the community an opportunity to consider the proposal and provide feedback before the matter returns to Council for a final decision.
What has Council decided so far?
At its meeting on 21 July 2026, Council:
- provided in-principle support for the proposed 21-year lease with a further 21-year option to renew
- directed Administration to undertake public consultation
- authorised the Chief Executive Officer to make necessary administrative amendments to refine the proposed lease area before consultation
- resolved that community feedback would be presented back to Council following the consultation process.
Council has not yet made a final decision to grant the lease.
