Registration Period
Dog and cat registrations and renewals are due each year between 1 July and 31 August.
Register Online with DACO
All dog and cat registrations are managed through Dogs and Cats Online (DACO) — South Australia's statewide database for pet registration, microchipping and breeder details.
DACO makes it easy to:
- Pay your annual registration fee
- Update your contact or address details
- Enter microchip or desexing info
- Keep your pet’s records current

We recommend all dog owners register online via DACO using a credit card.

The following fees have been adopted by Council for 2026/27:

Cat Registrations
In South Australia, microchipping and desexing of cats is mandatory, and these details must be recorded in DACO.
Registering your cat helps you get them back if they go missing — DACO is used by councils, vets, the RSPCA, and the Animal Welfare League to reunite pets with their owners.
First-Time Cat Registration:
- Register using your cat’s microchip number (provided by breeder, vet, shelter, or previous owner).
- If your cat’s microchip isn’t already in DACO, upload a digital copy of the microchip certificate.

Keeping Details Up to Date:
It’s the owner’s responsibility to update your pet’s details in DACO, including when:
- You move house or change your contact details
- Your pet passes away or goes missing for more than 72 hours
- You re-home your pet or surrender it to a shelter
You can log in to DACO anytime to make updates.
Cat Fees in Our District:
The District Council of Karoonda East Murray currently does not charge a fee for cat registrations, but we strongly encourage all cat owners to register their pets on DACO.
Doing so ensures you receive reminders to update your details and increases the chances of being reunited with your cat if it ever goes missing.
