Mallee Playground Trail

The Mallee Playground Trail is a community led initiative which has revitalised and connected open space reserves in three towns within our district, Wynarka, Karoonda and Wanbi, it is the first of its kind in the region.

Karoonda Playground

The design for the playground is based on a space theme, connecting it to the historical Karoonda Meteorite. The Karoonda playground has become a flagship playground experience, boasting the only three level (10m) summit tower in South Australia, it also features two tunnel slides ‘blackholes’, a lunar rover buggy, ‘space tether’ flying fox, orbiting carousel, stargazing hammock and a water play area just to name few.

Wynarka Playground

This playground was redeveloped in partnership with the District Council of Karoonda East Murray and members of the Wynarka Recreation Reserve Committee. The equipment installed was originally part of the RSL Karoonda Playground, which has been refurbished and relocated to the township of Wynarka.

Wanbi Playground

The Wanbi Soldiers Memorial Playground was developed by the local Youth Action Committee, together with local residents with a focus on creating nature-based play which has been included in the design for Wanbi Reserve as well as natural toned traditional play equipment.

An accessible public toilet has also been installed within the reserve to complement the playground and existing shelter, creating a family friendly pit-stop and destination on the Karoonda Highway.
