District Council of Karoonda East Murray appoint new CEO

Published 16th December 2020

The new chief executive officer (CEO) of the Karoonda East Murray Council says he’s looking forward to working collaboratively with the community.

On Wednesday, Mayor Caroline Phillips announced the appointment of Martin Borgas, who will start his new role on January 18.

“I am thrilled to welcome Martin to the Karoonda East Murray team,” she said.

“We’re looking forward to his leadership continuing the momentum and building on the achievements of the organisation over the past couple of years.”

Mr Borgas has extensive experience and knowledge in state and local government and the private industry. Coming from his most recent role as Director Operations at the Local Government Association Procurement, Martin brings experience from over 100 local government entities, not only in procurement but strategy, community, change management and regional activation.

Having spent most of his life living in rural areas and a great deal of his youth on family farms, Mr Borgas, is no stranger to the country life (and the challenges it faces) and is looking forward to getting involved in the community.

“From supporting community members and established businesses to building resilience and encouraging new investment and residents, you can count on me being a regular face out and about,” he says.

“I’m ready to hear about the successes, the challenges, the dreams and how I can support and grow opportunity for the region.”

Mr Borgas said he is excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for the progressive mallee town.

“It’s a real hidden gem and the privilege of being able to lead such a dedicated team supported by a vibrant progressive community is certainly not lost on me,” he said.
