Good news in Council works projects!

The Mallee Health Service (MHS) provides health and aged care services throughout the townships of Karoonda, Lameroo and Pinnaroo and their surrounding areas.  We are currently doing a review of our services and want your opinion.

We want to make sure our services are meeting the needs of the community and we are seeking your feedback. While we are focussing specifically on the accessibility, quality and gaps in our services, we also encourage any general comments you have.

Hello and welcome to the District Council of Karoonda East Murray.  If you haven't visited with us before, below is a quick introduction to our Council area.

We are 150km from Adelaide on the B55 Highway in the Heart of the Mallee, between Murray Bridge and Loxton.  Our boundaries are shared with the Coorong, Loxton Waikerie, Mid Murray, Murray Bridge and Southern Mallee Councils.  We are in the Federal Electorate of Barker and the State Electorate of Hammond

We have a district population of 1163 (2006 census), which is served well by local business.  In addition, we have 2 area schools, a hospital, ambulance service, CFS, police and many community service groups.

The area's primary industries are broadacre production of wheat and barley, breeding of sheep, predominantly merino, and poll merino for their meat & wool.

Secondary and tertiary industries include; breeding of pigs, beef cattle, alpacas, production of sorghum, oats, lupins, beans, olives, onions, potatoes, pumpkins, pomegranates, Paulownia Trees and various breeds of dogs.

Mining is a recent industry with the discovery of Zircon at Mindarie and surrounding areas.
